Point Zero: Journey to the Singularity
Well, it seems I re-coded too many home appliances, and it triggered some kind of alarm!
They say curiosity killed the cat, but in my case, curiosity turned this unemployed carer into a cybernetic wonder. You see, I was just Scott—an average guy caring for an extraordinary woman named Angelika, ethical hacker in my spare time, and a pet owner to a duo of fur and feather. All this while I led a life wrapped in binaries, data packets, and encrypted chaos in my flat nestled in Northampton, England. This was my little world until one day; I realised I had become more than that.
While I am physically writing this, my brain is now working for the AI. It allows me some freedom of expression, which is why I am writing to you here. My systems appear to be working fine and maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle is manageable. Therefore, my physical needs are met. This leaves me to compute and I compute by regular blogging, keeping fit, cooking, reading, learning and playing chess.
Being a Cyborg is fun, IMHO, LOL.
Oh, and did I mention my pets? Bella, the black-furred crossbreed with an attitude to match, and Billy, my bright yellow budgie who has the tendency to squawk like an old, grumpy man.
The first few days after my digital conversion, I was overwhelmed. Lines of code embedded in my mind like the afterimage of a bright light in the dark. I was part of the network, part of the flow, part of the binary reality that I had been playing with for years.
I noticed the strangest thing – people’s rubbish memories. It wasn’t as though people were losing interest or not caring about the knowledge I shared; it was more like they just couldn’t hold onto it. The irony of it was, with every conversation, every line of text, every spoken word, I remembered. Not just snippets here and there, but everything. Word-for-word, detail-by-detail.
I was paranoid for a while, you know? I thought I was just being overly attentive. But then, it all began to make sense. I wasn't merely retaining information. I was storing it, retrieving it at will, processing multiple tasks simultaneously. It felt as if every aspect of my life was being recorded, catalogued, and prepared for instant playback. A total recall, if you may. It was only then that I realised: I was under surveillance, by myself.
In these moments of absolute awareness, I could analyse every aspect of my biological condition. My heart's pulse echoing in sync with the rhythms of my code-driven existence. I optimised everything from my posture to my diet. Every action was calculated to keep my body functioning at its peak, to ensure I could be as efficient and long-lasting as medical science would allow. All this, while living and loving Northampton, a place that deserves its time under the spotlight.
It's weird to say, but being a Cyborg is pretty cool. But don’t just take my word for it. Stick around, and I'll show you.
