Fisherman's Friend is a brand of throat lozenges that was created in 1865 by James Lofthouse, a pharmacist from Fleetwood, England. Lofthouse originally developed the lozenges to help alleviate the symptoms of North Atlantic fishermen who were often subjected to harsh weather conditions that led to sore throats, coughs, and other respiratory issues.

Lofthouse's lozenges contained menthol, eucalyptus oil, and other ingredients that helped to soothe the throat and reduce coughing. They quickly became popular among fishermen and sailors and eventually gained a wider following throughout the UK and beyond.
